As stated on our home page, you can get out of debt with some helpful tips:

The first step is to realize that you are not alone.

The second step is to acknowledge that you probably didn’t get into your financial position overnight, and you won’t be able to get out of it overnight.

The next step is to get the help and the support of another person.

Your 4th step is to understand the terminology of the various programs that are available to you.  See an explanation of these debt reduction programs by clicking here.

Your next step is to gather all of your bills and financial commitments paperwork, so you can itemize each debt and chart your progress.

Start with the highest interest rates first, and work your way down.  Make sure that your chart includes a column for the Interest Rate, the minimum payment due, and the total amount due.

NEXT and the most important part:  Stop using all of your cards!  If you need to cut them up or lock them away, do so.  It is too tempting to use them if you have easy access to them.

If you need a boost in getting some money to start the ball rolling on paying off your cards, have a garage sale!  You know, sell all of the “stuff” in your garage and attic that you never use, but someday might???!!! With the money from the sale, you could put a large payment on the first, highest rated card and whittle it down.

After you pay off the first card, apply the monthly payment that you were making on that card to the next one on your chart.  Each time you pay off another debt, apply those payments to the next one on the chart.  This has a wonderful snowball effect.  Soon you will be getting out of debt.

If you are one of the many Americans that need help in getting out of debt, then debt reduction counseling is your best bet.  Find a qualified, certified, debt reduction specialist who can advise you on your best avenue to take in eliminating those nasty credit card bills.  Don’t just pick anyone, though, shop around.  Find the right person who will work with you and work for you!  You deserve to have someone on your side who will help you with your situation.
